Polish authorities have approved the environmental impact assessment submitted by Czech state owned electricity company CEZ to build a natural-gas fired power block in the Skawina power station, southern Poland. CEZ plans to start the construction of the in 2012. The unit is expected to come online in 2014 and is likely to have a capacity of around 430 megawatts (MW).
The country's power infrastructure is not diversified, but electricity supply meets demand. Poland's power-generating sector allows a surplus, which the country uses for export. The country's oil and gas-fired facilities are few, and BMI doubts that there will be further developments in these areas during the forecast period.
