CHINA'S ENGINEERING TECHNICAL STANDARD
With the encouraging development in science and technology as well as in society and economy, China has made a significant progress in engineering technology, and taken a leading position in the world in different business sectors including hydropower, wind power, railway, road, bridge, power transmission and transformation and architecture. Technical standards constitute the basis of reliability, safety and affordability of the projects. China has therefore established sound systems of technical standards in various sectors, covering all phases of the project, from survey, design and construction to acceptance inspection, operation and management. These systems serve as an important guarantee for China’s social and economic development. In the past thirty years in particular, many world-famous projects applying Chinese technical standards have been successfully implemented, such as the world’s biggest hydropower project – the Three Gorges Hydro Project, the National Stadium where the 2008 Olympic Games were held, the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway with a speed of 300km/h, the world’s longest cross-sea bridge – the Jiaozhouwan Bridge in Qingdao, the world’s only UHV project in commercial operation - the Jindongnan-Nanyang-Jingmen 1MV UHV AC Transmission Project, one of the world’s biggest wind farms - the Guazhou 10 GW Wind Power Base, and many other China-aided infrastructure projects, including the National Stadium of Tanzania, the Gwadar Port of Pakistan, and the Gotera Flyover of Ethiopia. The wide application of China’s standards proves that the standards have high technology content, and the global recognition of the quality and construction speed shows that China’s standards can stand abreast with the prevailing international engineering standards.
To meet the needs of foreign countries in acquiring a better understanding of China’s engineering technical standards, and to encourage mutual learning between China and other countries, related government agencies in China have released the English version of some Chinese engineering technical standards, and will continue to do so upon domestic and foreign demands. We sincerely hope that this could facilitate exchanges and cooperation with our foreign counterparts in a wider range of areas.
